  • Careers At Sea - Government Initiative

The British Chamber of Shipping is working hard to encourage a career at sea through various means; these include Recruitment Talks in Schools and Colleges, Websites, Facebook and much more.

I am a Careers at Sea Ambassador, a volountary position where I go into schools during my spare time and talk to students about a career in the Merchant Navy, and show them various videos whilst discussing some of my experiences. I don't represent any particular company, I simply show the possibilities and how a career at sea can give you a fully sponsored Foundation Degree in addition to the opportunity for worldwide travel and a truly different life.

The website www.careersatsea.org has lots of information on companies, life at sea and some videos of actual cadets. I'd definately recommend it as the website to visit for anyone considering a career at sea.

Also, please take a look at the Facebook page and sign up at www.facebook.com/careersatsea

As I said, this isn't representing any particular company, it just provides lots of useful information for potential cadets in the UK.

If any serving Officers or Cadets would like to get involved as an Ambassador, please drop me a PM and I'll put you in touch with the right people.

    Happy Sailing!!!!!

Contacted them when I was based in Dubai, wernt really all that interested (even though there are over 100,000 Brits in Dubai with Kids) and I doubt they would be interested now...
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....

All posts here represent my own opinion and not that of my employer.

Hi GM, sorry to hear about that. I'm in Oman now, and hoping to do some talks in the local British Schools, we'll see!
