Hello everyone first of all
I am Chris, 28 years old student, currently doing Electronics Engineering course in the Department of Electronics at the University of Surrey in Guildford. Before I started to study in the UK, I have finished Secondary Technical Naval School in Poland, having a five-year teaching period in the vocation of Navigating Technician obtaining Navigation Technician Diploma and the Rating Forming Part of Navigational Watch Certificate. I also have all basic STCW 95 Certificates and Seaman's book. I did the Military Service in Polish Navy in the character of Operator of Radio-Navigational Platoon. Currently I finished professional training year in industry, as part of my degree, next July I should become Electronic Engineer, I want to do masters degree if future situation will allow. I spent also 8 months on the Cruise Ship in the hotel department - which is not relevant in terms
of sea experience and that was just before I started my degree course.
I have quite difficult situation at the moment, as I am between Electronics Engineering and work at Sea. I found Deck Cadet Programmes on Warsash Maritime Academy's website. I must say the programme for deck cadets looks very interesting. Today I wanted to ask for some general advice. I am really motivated and quite ambitious person but I am not sure if I made the right choice with electronics. Is there any chance that with my previous Maritime education, little experience and engineering degree, I could join Deck Cadet Programme? Is it difficult to get the sponsorship, as I understand this is the major requirement before starting Deck Cadet Programme.
Thank you in advance.
