Entry Requirements

So I have just been knocked back from a company because I have chemistry rather than physics. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm currently trying to find companies that accept people without physics, and it's quite difficult since they're changing their entry requirements, or scrapping the alternative route and only doing the professional diploma/foundation degree now. It's so frustrating since I know I could handle the work on the alternative route!

Are you going for deck or engine?? im with AngloEastern and i only had a maths AS level grade when i applied and no phyics and that was enough (should have an A level grade as of tomorow) and they do stil do the HND i think. Or am i right in thinking that you'd said on another thread that you'd already applied to these???

Stephy, which companies are getting rid of the HNC/D?

Cadetships are getting more popular (I must see if I can find some figures) so maybe companies are moderating the number shortlisted by tightening requirements?

It's a deck cadetship I'm looing for. I sent an application to Anglo-Eastern on Monday (the email address didn't seem to work). I spoke to them on the phone and they told me to apply anyway. A few companies (e.g. Bibby) are only doing the PD/FD course starting next year or after.

I've heard this is the highest interest they've had in the merchant navy, so I can see why they would prefer people with all the correct grades. I spoke to them on the phone after I received the letter this morning, and was told they can't risk it due to a lot of people dropping out because they found it too difficult. I wish I could prove that I'd be able to do the alternative route, just need someone to give me a chance!

I'll try find the other companies I saw, think there were 2 or 3 getting rid of the HNC.
