  • Clyde Marine Interview

    Morning All,

I applied to CMT at the very beginning of August and received a phonecall this morning for an interview this thursday the 18th, So naturally after the exitement my arse has now dropped and I'm doing as much interview prep as possible, but what I was wondering is, if all goes fine and dandy what is the likelyhood of a Sept/Jan start?

    Thanks
    Louii

Quite possible, if you pass the interview. They do it on a points based system, number of correct or good answers and what not. Just look on their website and go through the CD and make sure you know the answers to some of the technical questions he will ask (I was asked about the difference between Diesel and Petrol Engines) and you should be ok.
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....

Hi Louii and welcome to the forums!

I'd say Spetember might be pushing it since it's so close, but you never know - if you're available for September tell them at the interview and there's a chance they might happen to have a space going, though it depends on how much you need to sort out before going.

January is more realistic, but see how it goes!

      Best of luck!

Do a good interview and then you will get a place if its spet or jan then dont really worry.

It could be that they are starting the jan interviews as the people are free now that september is so close or it could be that someone has dropped out and that they have picked the next person on the list of candidates.

        good luck and dont panic
you can take it with a pinch of salt, but i prefer it with a nip of whisky

            Ah, thanks
I haven't recieved any Clyde literature, with the interview being arranged so soon, theres a chance I could get it by tomorrow, its not a huge issue if I don't I've just been using this site and the wonders of the internet to research everything I need to know.
I thought that sept may have been cutting it abit close as I still need my ENG1 and all of the rest of the paperwork, but we'll see what happens
thanks for all the good wishes.

If I remember rightly I had an interview with Clyde late July/August time and they offered me a place that September. However, I had to defer my start date until last Jan due to family issues which they didn't have a problem with.

                  Hey Louii,

I am new on here but hope this helps, I applied to become an Engineering Cadet towards the end of July and promptly received a letter inviting me to interview on the 5th August 2011, I passed the interview and was offered sponsorship there and then at the interview, I then had my ENG1 Medical on the 12th August which I passed with no restrictions and now start at the City of Glasgow College on Monday (22nd August)

I am sure you will agree this was a very speedy process with which I am thoroughly delighted!!!

The only downside for me is that I have a valid passport till March 2014 which CMT refused!!! I now have an appointment with the Passport Office in Glasgow on Friday to get an express Passport which is leaving me ?130 out of pocket!!! When I challenged my Training Officer (to be) over this I was told that I would not be able to enter USA with my current one which I find a little odd. I was also told that I wouldn't be able to start college with my current one either.

However I am digressing, The point of this reply is, It all happened very very quickly and I cant wait to get stuck in so there may be hope for a Sept start after all.

                  Good Luck for tomorrow!

A few countries require a certain amount of time on a passport to gain entry/visas and theres little point getting a ten year visa stamped into a passport thats about to expire.
I've got myself another nationality since getting my visa's so i may have to take another trip to sort that out, as they wont like that i can travel on one and not tell them where ive been (which helps as an international man of mystery)

The visa thing is a little bit strange to be honest - the US will happily issue a visa on a passport with over two years left. When the passport expired, the visa remains valid as long as you bring along the old passport as well as the new one. At least that's what people did back in my airline days and nobody any had problems with US Immigration.

Ah yeah thanks that helps alot! The visa issue does seem abit bizarre your visa issues that your having, however I'm sure there will be some reason for it! Where are you going for your training once you have your passport sorted?

Engineers tend to start a week earlier than the deckies. Bring in the best first...
