Re: Sponsorship pay?
Does it really matter ? If I remember correctly you were the person who was asking about money aswell last time, I don't think you will enjoy it if all you care about is money, if you want money that you dont spend get in the Army as an officer, thats good pay.
The merchant navy seems to offer good wages in general but its more the life style that appeals to me and I dont think money will matter at the end of the day if all you are doing is sat on a boat for 6 months counting the money, while it is important it shouldn't be the main reason for trying to join, or joining.

Re: Sponsorship pay?
I'm talking about during cadetship inbetween college and being at sea when you have time off; and yes it does matter because I won't have any money coming in to pay for monthly bills, food and other things i need/want thought that would be obvious... money isn't all i care about i never said that so don't put words into my mouth okay?

Seanyo_82, to partly answer your question - as I have not been on sea phase yet - During college holidays you get pay as normal, paid monthly (which is ?170 a week for me). From what I understand, as soon as you go onto sea phase your wage goes from college phase pay to sea phase pay (from ?170 a week to ?120 for me), even if you are at home for a few weeks before joining your ship.

Re: Sponsorship pay?
Money is pretty important...we're training for the MN-not the priesthood.
Some companies will reduce your pay whislt at sea, where some won't. SSTG has a minimum level of pay, but some companies will pay their cadets much more than this...there really is no set rule of thumb for cadet pay. Basically, the only answer is keep asking around and see where the best deal for you is.

....answering the question
Seanyo, as a cadet you will be paid both at sea and ashore, I have come across companies that don't pay you at sea but this is increasingly rare and none come to mind now that still do this.
For qualified officers some companies run contract based pay, meaning you're only paid for the time you are on board a ship. Cadets spend unequal times between sea and college and the full sponsorship means you'll be paid while you're at college and during your holidays.
To boldly go.....

Re: Sponsorship pay?
As a cadet you are paid 52 weeks of the year! My pay I'd paid in to my account monthly and whiset at sea it drops from 175 to 120 a week as said above. In your final college phase it increases to 190 with CMT.
