  • ENG1 Medical: Not fit for lookout

Hey, i've just had my ENG1 and the doctor put a restriction of not for watch keeping in emergency situations. but im a engine applicant, on the MCA website it states the only restrictions for engine applicants is if i am colourblind.
I am not colour blind and i can see perfectly well with glasses.
My sponsoring company has not accepted my ENG 1.
Do i need to re-take the ENG 1?

    Thanks for your help.

That all sounds a bit odd, you will need to get another ENG 1 done, but first, can you explain why they put that restriction on?

You need to speak to the medical examiner and get her to explain the decision; she should have done that at the time.

                            Re: Medical restrictions

Hmm eye test has a 2 tier standard - 1 without glasses / visual aids which is a low level - 6/60 from memory.

Second tier is a higher level but you can wear your glasses for this one.

You need a basic level of eyesight ( the 6/60 ) to get the eng1 unrestricted. It sounds like you have failed this standard so the company wont accept.

                            http://www.dft.gov.uk/mca/mcga07-home/s ... E9F4E9CEA2

Linky to the guidance on the medical standard appendix 1 I think is for eyesight.

I would get the doctor to confirm why the restriction was placed on and then you can go from there.

                              Re: Medical restrictions

Pardon? The eye sight restriction is nothing to worry about for a start he's a ginger beer and has no need to be able to look out the windows, so long as your glasses work and you arent totally colour blind (ie only see in back and white) then pretty much it isnt an issue.

That appendix you reference basically states....cannt be blind, if you need corrective devices carry a spare set and you cannt get your guide dog to to the test for you

Oh and as SL will tell you being colour blind isnt the restriction it once was with some companies
