Anyone got any info on Day Break Shipping?

From the small picture on the SSTG site it looks like they are something to do with Balearia ferries but I'm surprised they take British cadets if they are a Spanish company.

I take it you went to the interview with SSTG then and got offered daybreak?

If it's Balearia all I know about them is that they use some oldish ships - the St Anselm built for Sealink in 1980, which later became Stena Cambria is now Isla de Botafoc for Balearia.

No I've not been to the interview yet. Someone I talked to who had been a couple of weeks ago said Day Break, GMS and someone else like North Start or something were about all the places they had left for Sept this year.

Is the fact that they have old boats really a bad thing? I am more interested in the company and quality of their operations/training/officers than the age of the boats. (that didn't mean to sound condescending to CharlieDelta).

Age of the ships shouldn't really make a difference - look at how old the QE2 was when Cunard finally got rid of her! In one respect older ships are better to train on - theres less computerised stuff and you have a chance to learn how to do it properly!

If you only learn on brand new ships, thats fine but if you end up working on an older ship once you qualify (which is extremely likely at some point in your career)- your going to have a very hard time!

Well me being me I'd jump at the chance to go and sail on an old Irish Sea favourite.

But there are a lot of people attracted by things that beep and whirr and make your coffee while telling you where in the pond you are and simtaneously giving you a back rub. Some people want the USS Enterprise (the scifi one) wheras some are happy with anything that floats.
