  • Change of College?

    Good evening all,

I have recently been offered a place with Clyde Marine Training, and I am over the moon about this.

However, I was told at my interview that I would most likely attend Warsash college, and upon opening my letter I have found out that I am going to South Tyneside.

Does anyone know if I am able to try and change their choice of college for me. I have nothing against either college, but Warsash would have been my ideal college.

I am still very happy to go to STC, but was just looking for advice.

PS, I am still yet to accept Clydes offer, but I will be doing thid ASAP, it would be stupid of me not too.

    Thanks

    Re: Change of College?

I doubt you will be able to change college.

One of the major tests for a cadet is spending long periods away (at sea), and this is initially done by sending you to a college for a similar period of time.

Basically, you should try and get used to spending time in places that may not be your first preference if this is required to achieve your career goal.

I'm from the south and was delighted to be sent to STC, although Warsash is only about an hours drive from my home.

I would argue that STC being in the town on South Shields and not far from Sunderland and Newcastle has a much better social life than Warsash, stuck out in the middle of nowhere...

I spent a summer in Southampton a while back and the night life was nothing special.

          Thanks for all your replies.

It was just a curious question to see whether it can be done. I am still very very happy to attend STC, and of course very grateful for Clyde to offer me the opportunity.

Does anyone know the best way to get to STC via public transport. I live in East Anglia and I was thinking about catching the train, however I have been looking at possibly getting a flight there instead from LGW.

          Thanks

i should think by the time you've got down to gatwick, checked in, flown, picked up luggage and got to stc it will be just as quick to drive / pick up the london-newcastle train from peterborough.

Does CMT not re-imburse travelling costs to get to college at the start/end of a phase? I would say plane and train would be roughly the same amount of time, driving would take well over 8 hours i can imagine!

                Why Gatwick and not Stansted?

They won't re-imburse you for the flight if the train is cheaper. Basically, look at both options and go with the cheapest and then CMT will give you the money for that one.

I've actually got away with a first class train ticket before as it was cheaper than standard...(strange I know)
