  • Have you ever been the only UK national on a ship?

    With most crews being multi-national these days, have you ever been the only UK national on board as a cadet? Or does your sponsoring company usually stick you on a vessel with at least some British officers?

    I haven't, but I know people who have, as cadets.

      I was. No real problem for me though.
      I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....

        Yes. but only for a few weeks. but its not uncommon. Companies will generally try and put you on ships with other British cadets. But as for British officers that's pretty unlikely as there aren't that many of them.

          I have quite regually, but they all speak english and as long they you make an effort with them they tend to do the same

            I know of one cadet who was - he was sponsored by a certain company affiliated to one of Will Young's songs.

            He stuck it out though - didn't come back speaking the lingo though! Shame....
