Right here's my problem. I currently at school right now doing Higher maths, Higher Information Systems and Advanced higher modern studies. I got accepted by Maersk to start a FD course on being a deck officer. On the letter the conditionals are only standard grades (which i already have and I have some highers aswell). My problem is is that i want to leave school because I see no point in it as i'am already accepted. What do you guy's think???

Re: Should i leave school?
When are you due to start?
What do you plan to do until you start?
Talk to Maersk and see what thier opinion is.Trust me I'm a Chief.

Yes I work for the big blue canoe company.
No I do not report things from here to them as they are quite able to come and read this stuff for themselves.

Re: Should i leave school?
As you are due to start in September, I would strongly advise you to remain on at school and do well in your exams - especially Higher mathematics - you are already more than half way through the year so another 4 months won't make that much of a difference.
You also have the advantage, unlike most of your class mates of not having to worry about your results!
As others have said, you might change your mind and find that you actually needed the courses you just abandoned to do what you want in the future.
You can always get a part time job in a supermarket or something in the evening and at weekends (as well as during the summer - after all the higher examinations are pretty much over by early June).
Ultimately the choice has to be yours... I would suggest you talk it over with your parents before you make any sudden decisions though.?Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn?t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.?

Re: Should i leave school?
Finding a job is a pain. If you're gonna drop out, make sure you have a job first!
Though if i were you I'd just get my head down and get the extra qualifications, as someone else said they will keep more doors open for you. Maybe get a part time job on the side if you could manage it?
Also, after exams you'll still have a few months til September, I assume. You could get a job over the summer instead perhaps.I may be wrong, but I believe "diversity," to be an old, old wooden ship,

Re: Should i leave school?
I was the same i was fully accepted to start on Sep 2010, but still doing my 5th year in school and highers. My advice stay on and get your highers and A.Higher they may be usefully. I also worked part time from about easter last year but i was bored silly sitting around the house when not working, so stay at school its only another 4 months but dont stress over your exams afterall it puts your time in till you start."A calm sea does not make a skilled sailor but it does make a happy sailor!"

Re: Should i leave school?
i wish i had a choice with college but i simply cant afford to drop out right now haha and i work fulltime ontop of that trust me stay in school so much easier if you dont mind working with fast food i would apply as summer is coming get a few months in they usually look for staff for over the summer just dont tell them your away in 2-3 months but it would give you a lil extra cash but either apply before easter or summer thats when we take our staff on and xmas buts not use to youBe what you want to be not what other people tell you to be
Adapt and over come

Re: Should i leave school?
Remember the moment you leave full time education you'll need to start paying taxes on your wage, also if you're living at home with your parents they'll have to start paying extra tax aswel. They should be getting a small tax break while you're in school/sixth form and they'll lose that when you leave.
I had this same choice, I chose to stay in sixth form until the summer, if anything it kept me working. Remember Deck/Engine cadetships are maths based, if you're doing maths now then sticking with it until the summer will keep alot of it fresh in your mind.
There are advantages to getting a job for a while tho. If anything the life experience is good. It's up to you =]
To boldly go.....

Re: Should i leave school?
I'm still in school as well, doing Higher Maths, Higher Physics and Advanced Higher Information Systems. from what i have seen it is a good idea to stay in school and get your qualifications. I've had a successful interview with SSTG and have been told that gaining more qualifications especially maths and physics will make my life easier when I'm at college as I'll have more experience with more complex maths work. Plus extra qualifications stand you in good stead for later life if you decide the merchant navy isn't for you
