Is there a specific type of divider that we're suppose to get?

The one i'm looking at is 'Spring Divider 150mm Square Leg Sealey' is this adequate?

Those ones look fine, but I have these:

Which are excellent. Bit more expensive like but pretty sturdy and quite wide so easier for measuring long distances on the chart. 150mm might get a bit annoying when measuring. If you are on a budget they look ok tho.

They look pretty nice Johnf88. What size are they? Are bigger better? I got 100mm ones in the end. I'm trying to work on a budget but VAT and delivery then VAT on delivery is kicking my butt at the moment.

They are 8 inches so about 200mm. I would definately say bigger are better in terms of convenience and ease of use when you are actually using them. If you haven't started at college you might want to wait until you do to save on delivery costs, depending on what college you are going to. There is a Kelvin Hughes right next to GCNS and I think there is one near Warsash, not sure about the other colleges but I would assume there are nautical shops nearby.

You will want to get a big compass aswell such as this one:

Again, pretty expensive, but a quality instrument which will last forever.

Can't remember if you're on the HND but if you are, don;t worry too much - you probably won't use them at all in phase one.
