Re: Flirting with more than one cadetship sponsor
I was lucky, I got my first choice come back to me straight away. (It probably helped that I had a contact from a friend of a friend and sent my application letter straight to the head honcho)
I also applied to pretty much everyone I could think of (apart from shell and BP of course!), I sent a CV and letter to most, and uploaded/cut and paste them into the online application forms I found. Most sent an application form back, which I ended up not filling out as I'd already got my place (took me two weeks from applying to signing the contract), the slowest to respond was Carnival who sent me an email in march asking if I was still interested, but I'd been at college since Jan!

Re: Flirting with more than one cadetship sponsor
Good question Tron.
If you get an offer from your first choice of company then it's best to get them to sign you up asap before someone else bags the place I guess. :P

I assue some companies have no problem filling their places whereas others might be eager to bag good cadets.

Flirting with more than one cadetship sponsor
Here's a question...
We all know that we apply to several companies, and hope to get taken on by a particular one or two; but ultimately may not be too bothered if we don't, as long as we get taken on.
The recruitment cycles for these organisations vary, and so many applicants can find themselves being unsure whether to hold out or accept and offer.
So, after all this build up... what's the question?!
The question is... at what point does a sponsor own your arse?
I ask this because it's already come up that once you get taken on by one company, another won't poach you ("gentleman's agreement" or Tonnage Tax paperwork, who knows); so at what point are you officially "taken on"?
Does simply accepting verbally or in writing mean you've sold your soul?
Is it only when you sign a contract with them?
How binding is the contract? (Cadets drop out etc... what are the consequences?)
At what point do you know you are with a particular company, and therefore obliged to withdraw from other applications?
Do you have to pull out of one before putting out for another?!
To what extent can you "two time" before forced to stick or twist?
Any anecdotes to share?
(have I beaten it to death enough yet?!) :character-spongebobdance:Tags: None
