  • BP Online Application

I did the BP online application for deck cadets this avo and it's a bit confusing. If anyone else has done it what goes in the bit where you can upload files?! All my certificates like A-leves etc are papers and I assume they don't want me to scan them all at this stage.

I'm not sure if this is worthy of the going in the "sensitive" secetion but I don't want BP thinking I am some retard! (the filter seems not to like the word r e t a r d ) :character-willie:

Any idea if they take on older cadets?

Yup, ****head s and mother****er s are out!

BP, you need to make a CV really... and upload that. I think it's premature to be sending anything else.

I'm probably a bit older than you, and I got a rejection from BP last Hallowe'en... I thought it was ageist, because without wishing to brag like a nob, my CV is pretty tidy and exceeds their minimum requirements.
Having said that I heard second hand rumours via merchant-navy.net that BP couldn't get enough engineers.
I'm still unsure about them tbh.

For Deck, there's probably going to be more applicants, and perhaps there'll be a bias towards 18-23 age range... perhaps the further you deviate from that range, the more you have to bring to the table so to speak... especially if it's relevant to what you're applying for.

When I had a phone interview with Shell, the feller was naturally curious about why I was applying and seemed to be looking for a story that added up (which I think I had); and looking to fill in blanks and question marks. I imagine they get a lot of applicants because of who they are and what they offer; and they have to find ways of filtering out perfectly good enough applicants - and some of them may be a bit snide.

In my CV I've got a sort of sales pitch section near the end explaining why I want to be a <insert company name here> cadet... I dunno whether my CV is structured correctly or not. Remember, you've got a couple of weeks, I don't think you need to rush... you need to stand out in the pile of applicants with some key words... donpedroshipping.co.uk (or somewhere similar) offers "insights" into the way oil companies do HR... they have formats they prefer, and pile them into their systems and run software searches on them for keywords (apocryphally, of course!).

Well I'm 26, 27 by the time I start if I get a place for Sept this year.

I uploaded my CV. My CV is not to bad I think but it's not for me to judge. I'll just have to wait and see if they get back to me.

Seemed to have clarified the BP's E v ETO question:

        http://www.warsashacademy.co.uk/courses ... sting.aspx

Basically, there's no obvious point in doing the E course... the ETO one makes it redundant, as the entry requirements are the same, and the ETO one is basically E+.
Why would anyone bother doing the E course?!

update on my correspondance with BP...
          1. Do both courses lead to a EOOW Certificate of Competency? (i.e.: is one a FdEng, and the other a HND?) - Yes both FdEng & Higher National Diploma leads to EOOW CoC.
          2. Are both courses an FdEng? (i.e. is one FdEng in Marine Engineering and the other an FdEng in Marine Electrical & Electronic Engineering?) : Please visit http://www.warsashacademy.co.uk/courses ... sting.aspx for more details.
          3. Do BP cadets attend only Warsash college? Or do the ETO cadets attend South Tyneside College? : Currently we are using South Tyneside College for ETO Cadet Programme, rest of the training are being held at Warsash college
Just waiting for the penny to drop and for her to state unequivocally that their ETO programme leads to the EOOW CoC... it sounds like it does, but getting the unambiguous "yes" feels like getting blood out of a stone.

STC runs the FdEng Marine EE course, and Warsash does ETO, so it's a legitimate thing to be unsure about!

Well I'm going for deck and from the application page it seemed a lot more clear cut.

Got an email yesterday saying I pass all their entry requirements and I've passed on to the next stage of the process. Fingers crossed.

Anyone know what their interviews are like?

I'm now waiting for the "sorry pal no luck this time" email. I'm sure I read they don't take many older cadets so I'm not holding out much hope.

                  Re: BP Online Application

I think the BP "ETO" course is this one:

                  http://www.stc.ac.uk/marine/courses/view.php?id=1927

They say they only use STC for their ETO course, and I think STC is the only place that does this course... so it's the same deal as for this one:

                  http://www.oceanopportunities.com/cadet ... cal_cadet/

The "ETO" course at places like Warsash is basically the same Engineering course, but with a couple of extra electronics-related things, for the Electronic Navigation Equipment Maintenance certificate, and the GMDSS certificate.

I too got this and then had to fill out another, more detailed application form which I duley sent back on the 26th of April. Not heard anything since. Anyone else in a similar position? Would assume they would have the courtesy to tell me if they weren't interested but of course maybe they have had a lot of applicants and are taking their time?
