Anyone know if this is allowed or would it lead to a fail on ENG 1?

shouldn't affect you as long as you can still pass the eyesight test.

wouldn't you have to declare your old pre surgery prescription though?

I am within the limits without it. Am mostly considering it for my own benefit.

It's no problems at all. Just declare it to the doctor when he ask and so long as you pass the eye test with him then your ok.

            Re: laser eye surgery

You have to wait 6 months from the date of the surgery to your ENG1. You can do it before but you get a temporary fail till the 6 months is up so there is no point. As Guinessman says once have had it done if your eyesight is good enough then you get your ENG1.

You might be given a 1 year as opposed to a 2 year ENG1 to start with but so long as you do not suffer revision ( eyes going back to before ) after the surgery then you will have no problems.

For the record the surgery is fine but the next 3 days are very unpleasant.

just read that after Lasik surgery the cornea is permanently weakened but this doesn't happen with Lasek so the MCA probably prefer people to have Lasek

wouldn't want any cornea trouble while at sea

just need to add some collision avoidance system similar to what planes have without the up and down aspect
