  • What would you do?......

    Hey there,

This is my first post on here so bear with me....

Basically, I was wondering what everyone else would do in my situation at the minute, I'm guessing a few people might have had the same choices to make.............

I had an interview with Clyde at the start of Aug and they offered me a place in Glasgow starting in Jan (which I'm pretty cool with and would be happy to go to) - for this offer, I have until a week monday to accept/decline.

This morning I had a phone interview with BP which went very well (I thought). They told me that the next stage of interview process would be an invite to their UK HQ (if the phone interview stage was successful). The 2nd Interview would be in late oct. Then if that was all good, they would offer me a place in Warsash in Jan.

Similarly, I've got an interview with SSTG on fri in london.

What do you think I should do? Obviously an offer/'thank you but goodbye' letter wont come thru from any other company until atleast mid oct.

Should I decline Clyde and hope for the best with BP and/or SSTG? (BP is my first choice btw)

Has anyone else been in the same boat? (no pun intended)

go to the sstg . if you get offered there and then like i did. then decline clyde if you wish. then have the interview with bp depending on the outcome fall back on sstg or decline sstg and go with BP. or accept clyde but dont sign anything. then pull out if you get the BP job. the first scenario is what i did which lead to me falling back on SSTG when Shell declined me
    Maybe I will never be
All the things that I want to be
But now is not the time to cry
Now's the time to find out why

I would stall Clyde, just take a while to complete the paperwork until you hear back from the other 2. Talking to some of the Clyde cadets here at college there was loads and they didn't have to sign a contract for quite a while...

I wouldn't feel too bad about it either, Clyde must expect cadets to apply to a few schemes so should give you longer to accept or not...

explain the situation to Clyde, they should be understanding, or go down the 'sorry I was on holiday....' route but do not decline until you have a concrete offer elsewhere.

When you have all the offers on the table choose the one thats best for you, I chose the one that gave me my local college but that may not be important to you. Just make sure you weigh them all up first as when you start there is no going back

I don't see the point in going with Clyde, unless you go FD (or Scottish equivalent) and get a first student loan and grant - the CTA is derisory. If you live in Glasgow anyway, with parents is probably fine though.

If BP is your first choice, then you should be happy to reapply if you don't get them this time round. I don't see the point in going with a third choice just to "get in"... once you're in, you can't really change. Tell BP at the interview that they are your first choice, and that you are happy to reapply and wouldn't take any other offers - that kind of overt dedication and determination will do you more favours in the long run I reckon.

I would definetly stay 'open minded' with all of the companies. I was In a similar situation last year, I had a place with Maersk, Shell and SSTG. Maersk offered me first, then Shell, then very last was SSTG. All in all after thinking things over I chose SSTG
