SMarT Funding and Tuition Fees
Mike Penning MP, minister for shipping, announced today that government support for maritime training (SMarT) is to be retained until at least 2015, with an annual budget of ?12m. The 114,500 GT cruise ship Costa Concordia ran aground last night at around 22:30 local time off the coast of the Italian Isola del Giglio.
The ship was carrying 3,206 passengers and 1,023 crew bound for Savona as part of a regular weekly cruise.

Crewmember fatally injured in severe weather
Three crewmembers have been injured, one fatally, in the English Channel this morning. Annie PG, a 12,000 dwt product tanker operated by Pritchard-Gordon, was struck by a wave and it is believed that the force of the impact threw the crewmembers across the deck.... -
