MNTB 70th Anniversary

  • MNTB 70th Anniversary

The Merchant Navy Training Board recently celebrated its 70th Anniversary, marking seven decades of excellence in British seafarer training. Originally titled the ‘Central Board for the Training of Officers in the Merchant Service’ it has since been known as the MNTB from 1942.

The MNTB recently moved into new offices in the London Bridge, here they hosted a most enjoyable evening to mark this Platinum Anniversary.

In attendance were Shipping Companies, Colleges, Unions and Jack (Faust) of OfficerCadet.Com.

Attendees enjoyed a presentation from the UK Chamber President Helen Deeble, promptly followed by Sir Alan Massey (Chief Executive of the MCA), Mark Dickinson (Secretary-General of Nautilus Int.), Steve Todd (National Secretary of the RMT) and finally Captain Nigel Palmer, former MNTB Chairman.

The presentation was rounded up by current MNTB Chairman, Commodore David Squire, who launched two new services - MNTB Course Recognition and Careers at Sea and Beyond.

The evening was very enjoyable and an excellent turnout made for an enjoyable atmosphere - many thanks to the MNTB for inviting OfficerCadet.Com.

Pictures of the event are available through the UK Chamber’s Flickr Page.
