    Hey there mate,

I'm a deck cadet with BPOS currently on board out in the north sea.

You'll be onboard with the chance to see how the different areas of the vessel work from the bridge and the deck or the engine room of you're that way inclined.

Which ship are you on and whens your trip, I'll probably be able to give you an idea where you'll be ending up by which ship you're on, some of the fields the fleet work sometimes even have phone signal!

On the things to take you with you I'd just take a few changes of clothes as there are washing machines/dryers onboard. Bedding and towels ect are provided. Also take a hard drive with films ect on otherwise you'll get bored.

Any other questions feel free to give me a shout, I know I had a load before I went away for the first time.

Two weeks? Packing shouldn't be too tricky then.

        - Clothes you don't mind getting ruined (buy some ?2 tees from primark)
        - Easy wear clothes for downtime
        - Uniform (if you have it) for meals.
        - Hard drive / laptop / whatever keeps you amused
        - Stationary
        - Sun cream and moisteriser. The engine room and sea air will be hell for your skin.

I'd strongly recommend you don't do this on a putford ship

Are Putford not too picky on that then? I know my last ship only really wanted uniforms for dinner and pilotage.

Putford ships don't do uniform at all

Ah right, the traders a good ship, you'll probably end up right up north on the fields off the humber estuary and possibly a bit further north.

Ive been on with one of the crews and you should get on just fine on there

Do any offshore companies wear uniforms? I know mine don't.

On one vessel we used to wear uniform (pilot shirt, pully, tabs but no tie) when alongside or entertaining the "office". At sea we'd switch to a polo shirt with a picture of the ship, "XXXX vessel CREW", company logo, "TEAM [vessel name]" and the Norwegian flag on.

Every other vessel was either casual or a ships polo/company branded shirt or fleece. One captain in the fleet was renown for making the crew wear the full uniform 24/7...
Pointy bit is the front, blunt bit is the back... Simples!

                    Will work for money/sea time.

What kind of things are you expected to wear when on watch, or is it just anything you want?
And since BPOS dont require it at sea, what are you expected to wear at college?

When I go on watch on the ship I'm on now its just trakkies and a t-shirt sort of thing.

At college uniform is still required, SSTG will tell you about that as anything college related goes through them

Can't answer the first - But you will need to wear uniform at college, irrespective of who your sponsor is.

Very few ships do uniformed dining nowadays, it?s pretentious and impractical

Just out of curiosity, for BPOS, does anyone know the salaries of 2 mates, chief mates and masters?
