    Testing preferential trip?

Searched the forum and Google lots of information about them but yet to find how they're tested.
Anyone able to enlighten me please?

We normally end up putting them down as tested if they go when we have a brownout, which seems to happen at least once a trip! Guess you could increase load on generator until they go but its risky...

Im not acutaully testing one It's for a TRB report best I've come up with is 'under controlled conditions such as in dry dock'

There are a few things which will trip the prefs such as a reverse power trip on a generator, an overcurrent on a breaker or certain alarms or signals from the power management system.

These can either by properly tested, e.g. by reverse powering the generator, simulated by current injection or simulated in other ways.

This doesn't have to be in DD, it can be done with the ship alongside and not working cargo.

Or just wait for the power turbine to trip, it takes the preferential each and every time, the ****ing thing...........just me then?

As Clanky says, make sure enough power on the board, then in a controlled manner ever power 1 gnerator, it should trip and take prefs at the same time, otherwise current injection is your friend.

Yes I work for the big blue canoe company.
No I do not report things from here to them as they are quite able to come and read this stuff for themselves.

Can you not avoid breaking something, even just for one day!?
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....

All posts here represent my own opinion and not that of my employer.
