Fleetwood Nautical College is located in Fleetwood, about 20 minutes north of Blackpool, in Lancashire.
Part of Blackpool and the Fylde College, the Nautical Campus has it's own site, with an offshore training pool on campus. It also has an offshore training factility at the boating lake, where students learn how to launch lifeboats, drive small craft, learn to sail and discover basic seamanship skills. In addition to this there is a dedicated fire-fighting training ground, where students learn how to tackle a variety of fires, ranging from a wastepaper bin to a full flashover. All the staff running these practical courses are highly qualified and experienced in their fields, most, if not all, of the offshore team are members of the Lifeboat service, and the fire ground leaders are past or present Fire Service men.
The college itself is, at time of writing (Jan 2012) undergoing an extensive refurbishment, a new reception area has been created, classrooms made cleaner and brighter with high quality projectors in every room, the library is being moved downstairs to a new larger area and more teaching space is being created too.
The standard of teaching at Fleetwood is highly regarded throughout the industry, and they are very proud of the high pass rate their students achieve each time the MCA orals come up.
