  • RFA Recruitment Process

Thinking of applying to the Royal Fleet Auxiliary? The recruitment process is a little more involved than with most other companies, so here's a brief rundown of the different stages!

    1. Request an application form by calling 08456 04 05 20. Complete application form and return. It will be considered and you should receive an acknowledgement.

    2. Take the Recruitment Test (RT), this can be done at any Armed Forces Careers Office (AFCO).

    3. Based on a combination of your Application Form and RT you will be requested to attend a SIFT interview at HMNB Portsmouth if you are so far successful.

    4. If you pass the SIFT interview you will sit the Admiralty Interview Board (AIB).

    5. If you are successful you will receive a provisional offer.

    6. Next you must meet both RFA and ENG1 medical standards. The ENG1 can be carried out at any approved practice.

    7. Provided you meet both standards your offer will be confirmed and you will be placed on the 7 week course at Britannia Royal Naval College Dartmouth.

    8. Having passed out of BRNC Dartmouth you will continue onto your chosen cadetship Deck/Engine.

You need to be 'up there' for this Recruitment Test Ladies and Gentleman. I got to this stage and no further. After receiving my letter of rejection, I contacted them to request my marks. I got 89%. I don't know whether or not it was the cuts or something, but I reckon they must be wanting + 90%. Hopefully I have not put you off.

Hi stevo, if you look on the RN website, there should be a downloadable practice booklet, just as long as you can get your head around the practice questons in the time limit, the RT should be a breeze. If I remeber right, it consists of numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning, mechcanical comprehension (not hard at all..eg. look at this tool, Identify it) and one other secton I can't remember but its similar to the other three.
